Lama Rabsang

Born in 1971 to a family of farmers in Nepal, although born in Kathmandu, his family home land is on the borders with Tibet and as such is full Tibetan culture and traditions.

Lama Rabsang took robes when he was eleven years old and spent his early years studying under the direction of his uncle.

He made his way to Palpung Sherabling, India in 1990 where he was able to complete his studies. He entered the three year retreat and on successful completion he was appointed the discipline master of Palpung Sherabling Monastery, serving in the post for four years.

From 2001-2004 he attended a language school in Birmingham, UK, to learn English and the culture. He returned to his home for the first time in 2001 where he had an emotional reunion with his family and the monastic community there for the first time in over 10 years. In July 2004, at the request of his students, the Chamgon Tai Situpa appointed Lama Rabsang the resident teacher at the newly founded Palpung Changchub Dargyeling, and he gave Lama Rabsang the title Choje. The centre was initially located in Llandridod Wells, before moving to Cardiff in 2007, and settling in Brynmawr in 2009.

Lama Rabsang keeps busy, working to establish the pure Palpung traditions in Europe. He visits Swansea every Wednesday to lead meditation, prayers and to give teachings.  He teaches in Llanidloes every month, and he regularly travels to three sites in Finland where he gives empowerments, teaching and instructions, and runs the Brynmawr centre, leading the regular prayers and meditation sessions, and offers public teachings and advice for individuals.

The Appointment Letter
Appointment Letter of Venerable. Choje Lama Rabsang
Lama Rabsang was ordained as a monk at the age of 18. He has been a monk at Palpung Sherabling Monastery in India since 1990. Since that time he has completed the traditional three year retreat during which he received the transmission of the Karma Kagyu Lineage, after completion of his retreat he was appointed as the discipline master of the monastery for four years before attending a language school in England.
Now I am appointing him as Choje Lama of Palpung Changchub Dargyeling in the UK, which is a branch Dharma Centre of Palpung Sherabling. His knowledge of Buddhism and ritual ceremony is well completed according to the Palpung congregation of Tibetan Buddhism.
I believe his stay will be beneficial to the followers of Buddha Dharma and Dharma Centres.
With Prayers,
The Twelfth Kenting Tai Situpa.
