THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS & THE FOUR IMMEASURABLES
Shakyamuni Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths (a sample give here from you tube), when he turned the first wheel of dharma in Sarnath India. The Four Immeasurables help us cultivate loving kindness, compassion, equanimity and empathetic joy. These practices open the heart and help us connect with ourselves and others.
The
six perfections, or paramitas, are the six stages of study and practice
followed by bodhisattvas on their way to Buddhahood. (The introduction,
posted on you tube is on this page). In Part 1, Situ Rinpoche teaches on
generosity, morality, patience, diligence, and meditation and in part 2,
Rinpoche teaches on prajnaparamita - the perfection of wisdom.
Mahamudra
is the principle meditation practice of the Kagyu lineage.
Briefly, it involves looking directly into the mind to
understand the true nature of reality. Mahamudra meditation is
also particularly appropriate for modern students because this
meditation does not require taking monastic ordination or doing
extensive retreats. This form of meditation has come down to us
from the Mahasiddhas of India who were carpenters, university
professors, kings, fisherman, and common labourers. They
practiced this meditation while having families and engaging in
their daily work and were able to reach enlightenment with this
meditation.
