SUNDAY DHARMA TEACHING
SUNDAY DHARMA TEACHING
The this series of Sunday Evening Dharma talks (July - October 2025) by Choje Lama Rabsang will focus on the path of Mahamudra and its different practices.
In the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, Mahamudra or the “Great Seal” is considered the essence of the Buddhas’ teachings. It is also sometimes referred to as the highest and most profound teaching of the Buddhas. In essence, the Mahamudra path is a progressive journey that begins with foundational practices, cultivates mindfulness and insight through meditation, and leads to the direct experience of the ultimate nature of mind.
Ngondro are foundational practices that purify the mind, build positive potential, and prepare the practitioner for more advanced meditation. They include practices like refuge, prostrations, bodhicitta, Vajrasattva, mandala offering, and guru yoga. After the ngondro the practice involves cultivating both a calm and stable mind (shamatha) and penetrating insight into the nature of reality (vipashyana). Mahamudra aims to directly reveal the ultimate nature of mind, which is often described as clear, empty, and luminous.
